LowePro Pro Roller Attaché X-50 Review

Introduction

The LowPro Pro Roller x-50 Attaché is something different in a market of photo bags. It attempts to be a hybrid, mixing camera bag with clothes bag. Personally I have been searching for a bag that can handle a subset of all my photo gear and clothes for a weekend trip. I have previously tried making a ProRoller X-200 work by morphing the interior dividers, but the result was lackluster at best and would not work for ‘nice’ clothes that don’t stand up to wrinkles well. It should also be known I have higher standards for roller bags because frankly, I don’t prefer to drag a bag behind me and instead prefer to carry the weight on my back. However, as I move along in years, I have started noting …

Lens Loop – A Review

A review of “Lens Loop” by Wulf, one of our excellent forum moderators!

What is a Lens Loop? It is a replacement camera strap made the same kind of nylon webbing used for vehicle seatbelts with a sturdy clip-hook hanging off the bottom. It also comes with a metal hoop attached to a standard bolt to mount on the bottom of the camera. Rather than hanging round your neck, the strap slings across the shoulder with the camera resting against your hip until you swing it into action (see the video on the Lens Loop site for a demonstration and lots of pictures).

The idea appeals. I have had plenty of experience to prove that carrying a DSLR round your neck can …

Nikon Coolpix P7100 Review

If you’re dithering between a mirrorless and a DSLR camera for serious, down-to-earth photography, this one from Nikon fits exactly that role.

Sure, the lens is fixed but it is a Nikkor that equates to 28-200mm as a 35 SLR equivalent: a 7.1x enlargement in fact. Very cleverly, Nikon has also installed an optical viewfinder: tiny but useful.

Agreed, the CCD captures only 10.1 megapixels, meaning you can snare a maximum image size of 3648×2736 pixels or as a 31x23cm print. But note: the CCD measures a largish 15mm across the diagonal. Compare the Nikon V1, with a diagonal of 16mm.

One negative: you have to forgo Full HD video with the P7100: max res is only 1280x720p, although I did find the AF and exposure control worked effortlessly while shooting video. A downer is that you can’t shoot stills while recording video:

My Kickstarter Christmas Wish List – 5 Great Photo & Video Products

What is Kickstarter?

For those of you that haven’t heard of Kickstarter.com, I am writing this article to introduce you to what is becoming a great website for photographers and creative peeps. Kickstarter is a platform that allows entrepreneurs to develop a product, pitch their idea, and have their project be funded by the Kickstarter community. If a project is successfully “funded” then the entrepreneurs receives the Kickstarter capital needed to take their products to market. In return, the Kickstarter community “pledges” to these products and is usually rewarded by receiving these products at a large discount, as well as prior to these items being available in retailers. So, for us consumers, it is pretty much like Black Friday all year long!

Why Should I Participate

So, what does this have to do with photography? Well, in the last few …
