Earlier this week, Sony announced the ZV-1F, a reasonably priced, easy-to-use camera geared toward vloggers – but also boasting plenty of features to satisfy beginner and enthusiast photographers.
The ZV-1F is impressively compact thanks to a smaller (one-inch) 20 MP sensor and a fixed 20mm lens; you can easily stow the camera in a bag, a purse, or even a pocket, then bring it out at a moment’s notice. The diminutive design is perfect for on-the-go vloggers, street photographers, travel photographers, and casual walkaround photographers, while the 20mm focal length is well-placed for content creators looking to capture frequent selfies, group shots, and first-person vlogs.
The one-inch sensor may be smaller than APS-C competitors, but image quality promises to be excellent. Sony claims that the ZV-1F offers “high-quality stills, video, and audio;” thanks to the 20 MP resolution, you can confidently produce crisp photos for social media, website portfolios, and even printing. Video capabilities reach a solid 4K/30p and 1080p at 60 FPS, so you can capture beautiful, detailed footage as required.
The ZV-1F packs a handful of additional features for easy vlogging, including:
- Image stabilization technology for smooth video
- A capable built-in microphone (with a windscreen)
- A special mode to rapidly switch between slow-motion and high-speed recording
- Effective eye-tracking AF to prevent focusing mishaps when recording
- A bokeh mode, which instantly softens the background for a refined, professional look
Vloggers and photographers alike will appreciate the fully articulating screen, which is perfect for capturing low-angle shots and checking your framing as you record vlogs. And the camera is designed to work alongside the Imaging Edge Mobile Plus app so you can quickly transfer content to your smartphone – then immediately upload it to social media.
Of course, content creators do have a wide range of options, including photo-centric compact cameras and entry-level APS-C models. But thanks to the pocket-sized design and array of video features, the ZV-1F is especially well-suited to vloggers (and will certainly offer an upgrade over smartphone recording). The price is also highly affordable: The camera costs just $498, noticeably less than Sony’s own reasonably priced ZV-1, and many hundreds (even thousands) less than higher-end hybrid cameras like the Fujifilm X-S10 and the Panasonic Lumix GH6.
So if you’re after a camera for vlogging, video, and even casual photography, check out the ZV-1F! It should start shipping on Monday, October 24th.
