WIN 1 of these 2 Great E-Books
Which of these great E-Books would you like to win?
This week I’ve got a great little competition for you which will put you in the running to win one of two great E-books. Bruce Percy has produced a great range of photography E-books and has been generous enough to give us a few copies to give away to our readers.
All you need to do to be in the running is to answer the question – which one would you prefer?
On Tuesday (midday Melbourne time) I’ll randomly choose 4 of those who respond who will win a copy of the book they choose (two winners for each E-book).
Your choices are:
- Simplifying Composition – The Elemental Components of a Landscape
- Nocturne – Mastering Low Light Photography
One entry per person please!
Check out more information on them both on Bruce’s site.
PS: if you want to grab both e-books Bruce is currently offering them together for 25% off.
Update: This competition is now closed

April 22nd, 2010 at 12:05 am
I still consider myself a beginner, and I am more interested in landscape photography right now, so Simplifying Composition would be my choice!
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:05 am

Thanks for another contest, DPS!

Simplifying Composition – The Elemental Components of a Landscape
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:08 am
Although intuitively I’m more interested in simplification, I know that my skills in low-light are inadequate, so I’ll have to go for the low-light.
April 22nd, 2010 at 12:08 am
If I’d be so lucky…

April 22nd, 2010 at 12:10 am
If I could select one of the books, it would be Nocturne. I have much to learn and am currently taking some lessons from a tremendous landscape photographer, but I think that the use of low light can have a dramatic effect on a shot. I live in an old city with lots of closed up industrial sites and ethnic neighborhoods. I’d like to learn more about using low light in an urban environment.
Thanks for the opportunity

I’d choose “Simplifying Composition”, just because I feel that it is less specific than the other book, and might then have a more general value (at least for someone who does not yet master composition, like myself).
Plus I am too old now to spend my nights wandering in the cold trying to take photographs (just kidding)…
Many thanks to the author

Both books look great and would help a beginner as myself. If I have to pick one, I would like to win Nocturne – Mastering Low Light Photography. I’m amazed at the artistic photos I’ve seen with candles, fireworks, night scenes and just plain indoor shooting in low light.
April 22nd, 2010 at 5:08 pm
As I still consider myself a beginner, I would first like to improve my composition, so my vote goes to “Simplifying Composition”! But both look very interesting!

I like to win Simplifying Composition – The Elemental Components of a Landscape
April 22nd, 2010 at 6:57 pm
Maybe composition is something you can find by yourself or sometimes a matter of taste, subjective. You can always explain a bad composition with an excuse
.. low light is hard and a bad dark photo is just bad. I go for the second so, low light FTW!
PS: this just because I just bought a bright prime and need to squeeze something good from it to justify to myself the purchase…

Simplifying Composition – The Elemental Components of a Landscape.
In my view, the techniques, science part of photography is critical but comparatively easier to research and master over the period. What’s extremely tough is the art part of photography – an eye for compositions that make or break photographs.
Ideally, we like to see a perfect combination of great composition and tack sharp image quality but given a choice between great composition with minor technical defects and technically excellent but poor on composition; I bet we would choose the better composed photograph.
And hence my choice.

Composition is one of those areas of photography in which you don’t ever stop learning… every once in a while you find your self amazed by someone’s compositional creatitivy. Besides.. Composition has the greatest impact in your photography when you learn its “rules” and apply them for the first time….
So I say “Simplifying composition”.

I want both! But since I have to choose, Nocturne – Mastering Low Light Photography!
April 23rd, 2010 at 3:27 pm
If let me choose, I will pick “Nocturne – Mastering Low Light Photography”.
First, I will think Low light photography will include how to handle the light condition.
)
If I can learn and know how to control the lighting for my photo, I think it will not difficult to shoot landscape??? Like sunset/ sunrise/ rainy/ cloudy/ dull sky/ black sky, whatever. All I need is composition for landscape. That’s what I think. (May be my point of view is not correct, please ignore my point if not correct.
April 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
I would dearly love the Simplifying Composition. I am only beginning but find landscape photography so peaceful and rewarding. I’d love to check out the book and learn more…

Nocturne – Mastering Low Light Photography
April 23rd, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Both are equally challenging topics. Composition has a lot to do with a person’s individuality and it is very difficult to judge a photo’s composition without the understanding the reason behind the same. Night photography, on the other hand, involves application of “techniques” and this when combined with a good photography acumen can lead stunning results.
Having gone through Bruce’s portfolio on his site, i am sure that he has lot of good advice in both his books. To choose one, i would go for the “Low light photography” book.
April 23rd, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Nocturne for me….existing & low light photography has been my love from the beginning…..I bought my first SLR in 1971 (Minolta SRT 101)…..I refused to buy a flash for 6 years……took a lot of bad shots to get one or two good ones…..after enough blank pictures (didn’t know what you had until they were developed) my quality started to improve…..spent a few years taking cave pictures using miners lamps (carbide) and captured some really great photos…….I now of course shoot Digital (Canon 40D & 7D), which I use to shoot music festivals….lots of night & low light work….Nocturne Ebook would be of great help to me!!!
