I’m surprised. I would has guessed that ‘Never’ would be the 65%.

I’m planning to use tripod as often as I can to improve my photography

I’m surprised, since the majority of the readers of this site claim to take more landscape photos, that they don’t also use a tripod more often than not. I always use a tripod.

It doesn’t help that, in Canon circles at least, image-stabilization and tripods are mutually exclusive. I’d be tempted to use a tripod more if I didn’t also have to remember to turn IS off and back on again afterwards; hence, for the most part, I just rely on IS. Looks like I’m not the only one.

I’ve ended up using my tripod as an off camera light/flash stand mostly. For most photography, I’ve found that clamps can be more versatile, work just as well and are typically much easier to carry. With big lenses I do use a monopod though. Handholding anything over 500mm just doesn’t make sense to me.

Interesting! I’m fairly new here so I wasn’t able to participate in that poll. But personally, I use a tripod as often as I can, but not always, as I do car photography for my website.
Sometimes for events involving a lot of action and running, I need to be very versatile and have to run around, doing panning shots and all. I like to be up close and use a short light lens rather than far away with a zoom lens. So I don’t use a tripod nor a monopod in those cases.
For static photoshoots, however, I use it all the time. In fact, I have 2 tripods – the Gorilla, which I can use for the camera for low-angle shots, and the bigger 6ft tripod I can use to mount an external flash for strobist shots.

None of my lenses have IS. Whenever possible, I always use a tripod. It also helps to use a remote shutter release or self timer to avoid camera shake. It’s not always practical to lug around a tripod, but the images always turn out better.

I use my trripod and monopod not that often as most of my canon lenses have IS. However the manfrotto monopod is used more now for my DIY softbox. And my new manfrotto tripod is used for the video capabilities my new Eos 7D has. Check out my recent Scops owl photo’s and video on Flickr. All shot with my tripod and in combination with my kenko pro gd 1.4x teleconverter on the 100-400L.

Not much room for gray in the poll choices….never is never, and always is always, so cannot possibly choose those. I cannot imagine someone always uses a tripod. Always?? Never I could believe because the person might not even own a tripod, therefore seems plausible.

I use a tripod a lot during portrait sessions – not for the camera though. I pop my macbook pro on a Manfrotto 183 Projector platform and shoot tethered into Aperture.
Other than that, the tripod only comes out after dark.

Takes away the portability a bit but makes for some clear shots
