Getting Up High – Another Example [Share Yours Here]
Earlier in the week I posted about getting up high to get a new perspective on a scene. Chas Elliot shot me this image of a hotel lobby in Singapore as an example of just that (click to enlarge).
Got any examples of this technique to share? Feel free to link to them in the comments on this post if you’ve hosted them on a photo sharing site or your own blog.

Not as high but this one was taken at the Mission Inn. This is located in Riverside CA and had it’s fame back in the 1920’s.

Shot this video on the last floor of one of the biggest hotel in Montreal. It’s a video but you get the idea of the shots I got there… I am planning to go back there with a tripod at night…

Here’s mine. Not as high as some of the others, but we did get there using nothing more than our own hands and feet. Had I not been also holding the other end of the rope I’d have sorted out the overexposed sky :-)

Strapping cameras to kites sounds fun.

Sorry to be a pain but I’m pretty sure that’s the Jin Mao tower in Shanghai, not Singapore.

From the new extension to the Willis/Sears Tower in Chicago. You can walk out on see through platforms and look straight down 103 Stories! It’s pretty intense

Not quite as dramatic a composition as your shot, but when I was in college my roommates and I crawled under a chain link fence so we could climb a water tower just off of Kendall Square in Cambridge. I dragged along my Yashica A TLR so I could do some time exposures.
Eastgate, Kendall Square, and Boston Skyline. Late Fall, 1967
Of course what is interesting about it now is not so much the composition as its historical interest.
The place it was taken from no longer exists and if it did still exist you would be able to see the traffic circle because it would be obscured by buildings. You may notice some notable features of the current Boston skyline are missing too.

This is from the bridge of the petronas towers. They knew thousands of tourists would look down and they planed accordingly

The second shot posted on my blog was shot looking down at my daughter. It’s not as good as some of the one’s posted here, but it encompasses the overall theme of the article about looking down at things. :)

This is a shot from the Parks Double or Nothin’ contest. I was in a boom lift and it felt as if I was 70-80 feet in the air but I really don’t know how high I was. Obviously higher then the chopper!

This looks EXACTLY like the lobby of Jinmao tower in Shanghai, is there the same building in Singapore??
August 5th, 2009 at 7:54 am
That’s impressive. Anyone here try some kite- or balloon-aided aerial shooting? I’ve always wanted to do that, but I don’t have a camera I’m willing to send hundreds of feet above the ground.
