From what I heard and read, it's a pretty good lens. The only drawback is that the fstop goes from f5.6 to f6.3, which would limit you to only daytime game coverage. There's no way you would be able to use that lens for indoor, evening and night sporting events.

Your pictures are fantastic!!
I shot my first high school game last week - I already had mega respect for professional sports photographers but now - OMG! I was asked to take pictures for family member who is a senior this year - got some semi decent shots but nothing like yours.. I shoot a Nikon D-80 and was using a 105 mm 2.8 Nikkor lens, 1600 ISO but a higher shutter speed. I am supposed to shoot tomorrow night at Homecoming - if no rain, what shutter speed would you suggest? The field is fairly well lit for a high school field. Thanks - any help appreciated!! |

You're shots are great. I've been asked to shoot a university Department of Athletics and Recreation football game Friday night and the weather is calling for rain. I'going to be using my 40D, 70-200F4L and loads of hope. Any pointers as for as ISO and acceptable shutter speed?

I have a question... how do I get a pass to get on the field to shoot at high school football games? I want to try it out just to see how it is and how I do
