Default How to add text to photos

I have a Nikon D3100. It has a function to add text, but what I really want to do is add my name on the photo which I believe would be "copyright."

Is this something that is done with Photoshop? Or will the camera do this for me?

Thanks in advance for this newbie question.

You can use Lightroom 3 to add watermark to your images.Try searching on youtube for "Lightroom 3 watermark".

You can also use the text tool in Photoshop. What I usually do is do a text layer, type in what I want, then reduce the opacity of the layer and flatten. I've also made custom brushes to use as watermarks.

I'm not familiar with that particular function (or even that camera), but my initial thought is not to trust it.

It most likely adds text to the image file, but it may do so without making a backup of the image without text on it, which could be a problem.

Whatever program you use to add text/watermark, backup the original, or when saving the watermarked image, save as, and add something to the file name so as not to overwrite the original unmarked image.

I recommend Photoshop, but there's Lightroom (which is cheaper and less-featured), and there's even GIMP, a Photoshop look-a-like that is free, and has essentially the same basic features.

What kind of text (looking) were you planning on adding? Maybe we could help you from there, as well?
