Nice post and very useful info. Lightroom's default works pretty well for me at the moment but I may give this a try anyway. I plan to add a second camera body in the not too distant future and my guess is that the two will handle noise quite differently and sharpening needs may differ. I can see this as being very useful and a bit of a time saver.

Agreed, the "sharpening last" thing is more relevant when using a more traditional "layers in photoshop" technique.
