Default Aperture Explained

Want to know more about Aperture? I just finished this tutorial and I bet you will learn something!

I love playing with the Aperture and using it creatively in my photography, and this tutorial will explain everything you need to know about aperture. How to use it to your advantage? When to use which aperture? What does stopping down mean? What does wide open mean? Why are those f/1.2 & f/1.4 lenses so expensive? What exactly is Depth of Field? What is a bokeh, and what causes it?

If you need to know anything or want to know everything about aperture, check this out

Also, I just proofed it myself, so if you see any typos ect.. please shoot me a message!! Thanks.

Best,
Jay

Very good, hope the others there are just as good - this could be a great resource.

Overall it's good.
In your first diagram there is no f/1.4 example referred to in the text...

I think some of the example shots (such as sponge bob) could/should be more "dramatic" in bringing the background into focus as aperture is changed. (you need a longer working distance to achieve it)

You should be consistent in your reference...most places you speak of aperture increasing/decreasing (good) and then at one point you state something like "as f-stop goes down"...not so good, especially since the "number" is actually going up. It's confusing for some depending upon the way they think.

Two things not addressed, but related, are focal distance~aperture~dof and hyperfocal distance~aperture~dof. These are both "next step" topics and if not desired as part of this lesson, that's fine.

Thank you very much for your thoughts and suggestions I fixed the f/1.4 typo and I totally see what your saying about the consistency. I'll try and polish up a bit more! I wish I was a better writer Those next step topics are going to be there eventually, but I'm trying my best to get all the "core" stuff up there 1st.

Thanks again!

Best,
Jay
