Sometimes I think #4 should be the last item... You can't really know what kind of photographer you want to be until you get out there and experiment and learn your style.

Other times, I don't think it should be on the list at all or should be a footnote at best... Our society spends too much time trying pigeonhole everything into it's proper category. Break the boundaries, wander into the grey areas, poke around where others aren't. That's where the surprises are.

I really didn't put them in an order, just threw them on there. And I wrote 'You don't have to pick your way right away, as I've learned. Experiment.' ,so IMO that kind of covers your concerns. And I understand where you're coming from...some people also say it's best to know what type you want to be so you can focus mainly on that type of photography. But you never know until you 'Experiment.'

And I hope you dont mind my adding 'You can't really know what kind of photographer you want to be until you get out there and experiment and learn your style.', that you said?

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and my photos. (I love my Martin.)
I'm going to get photography lessons from a friend and I hope to share some of her tips here. So watch out for 'em.
And if you have any questions I will do my absolute best to find an answer.

Another thank you from someone who also has a camera in your "weight class" (though by another manufacturer).
I've been over to your photostream on Flickr and of course I'm no optimal judge, but you really seem to have a great eye! Looking forward to whatever new things you and your friend decide to share with us.

I don't think 5 is good. It's my belief that we should ask " am I improving ?" this is easier to define. All photographers go through a not good Enough phase, which can last a lifetime, and the negativity from answering can be disheartening. What is Enough? To whom? I think it's better to think about improvement as it's easier to say what or how to improve

I don't think it adresses improving, whether when people feel like they're just not good at all.
