Default Picasa Multiple Library Manager

Hi,

There were lots of comments on the Picasa Help Forum regarding the use of Multiple Libraries with Picasa and as such I wanted to have multiple libraries in Picasa as other Photo Organization Software have like Aperture, Lightroom, iPhoto etc.

I developed a Software to aid Picasa to have Multiple Libraries.

It is called Picasa Mate and is ONLY available for Mac. I am in the process of developing a version for Windows user as well.

CLICK HERE to go to the website for more details

Shown below is a sample screen shot of Picasa Mate, where it shows the default Picasa Library when it first fires up

Below is the screen shot that shows an additional library added to Picasa Mate

To get a quick overview of Picasa Mate, CLICK HERE to see a small Tutorial on How to Use Picasa Mate.

Picasa Mate is a small download of around 55kB and is bundled in zip file. The above tutorial shows how to download, unzip it, where to keep the application and what to do.

Please add comments on the website or here to suggest features/additions/modifications that can be used in Picasa Mate

Very good news I would say:

Picasa Mate is working fine on Win 7 (32/64) with some really small and easy to do tricks:

- download Picasa Mate, on c:
- run Picasa Mate once and close it, it will create a folder on C: called dPicasa
- drill down until you will find 'dPicasaLM.txt'
- edit this text file to point the corect location of your Google folder
(e.g. C:\Users\_User_\AppData\Local\Google ) and then save it
- open picasa mate and create a new profile (e.g. Work), then select it.
- when you open picasa again you should get a promt to reconfigure picasa search folders + picasa viewer ... set-up your 'work' visible folders
- now you can rename your defauld PICASA profile and swich between profiles using Picasa Mate
~~~ WARNING: KEEP PICASA CLOSED WHEN CHANGING PROFILES!!!! ~~~~~
For me works smoothly.
Cool Picasa 3.8 even better..
This looks great! Haven't tried it yet - but will.
Also, in the most recent update to Picasa (Version 3.8), Picasa does a MUCH better job of storing photo metadata (for example captions and keywords or tags) into the photo themselves rather than just storing it in the picasa database. Unfortunately, this isn't true for everything (for example, face recognition info is still just stored in the database).
I have a long list of photo management application reviews where the emphasis is on how the software deals with photo metadata (in database of in photos, or both).
Feel free to add your two cents!
Hi dwhogg, truly said that Picasa does a much better job of storing metadata (some of it) in the photo, but Picasa Mate is to manage different databases so that when you open one database, other photos are not visible and thus you are not distracted. Thanks for the reply and I am happy that it was of use to you.
Cheers
