Default What have you given up because of the Recession?

Ok, I thought that we could share how we are being thrifty, inventive or just getting the excess out of our lives due to leaner times. I know that people all over the world are feeling the squeeze. Some more than others. For them, my heart goes out to them. I see people struggling to make it, and it makes my sacrifices seem small.

So I was curious... what have you given up because of the Recession?

Here are my examples.

I gave up my gym membership, and began running outside again. I now regularly run 5K races, and now I'm getting to move up with the big boys and race a 10K. I'm so exctied!!

Running Fool!

Also, we have simple dinner night at my house. Usually when it's been a long or tough day, and we don't want to compete with the kitchen, we would take the easy way out and run out and grab a bite to eat. So on those nights we now opt for PB&J, soup and salad, or as I like to call it "Fend for yourself night." So when we do make it a nice meal out we don't feel guilty for going all out.

Here is my idea of a simple, yet delicious, dinner.

Simple Dinner

What have you done to pinch that last penny, and stretch that last dollar?

Thank you and I look forward to your life changes!

Thank you Kuul! I was inspired by an article I read the other day about cutting the excess spending out of our lives. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thumbs up

Interesting concept, Summer.
Well-taken shots, too; simple but effective.

Default Recession

Recession, recession, is there a recession?

When did it start?

It's not happening here in Australia.

Cheers,

John W

Thank you! I hope to see what you had to give up. I'm curious to see what other people consider a luxury.

Well, I'm packing my bags now to come to Australia! You know it's a dream of mine to live there one day. If you're doing as well economically as you say you are... well, I'm there!!

I'm lucky 'cause I had to give up nothing so far... But don't be misleaded: here in Italy we can feel recession, even if Mr. Berlusconi tried to told us that it's just a psychological thing.
He should ask to the thousands of people left home, who are living thanks only to unemployement benefits.

You are lucky!! We didn't give up that much either. I really think we're just making life simpler.

I loved living in Italia. That's funny that you were told that it's a psycological reaction. I love politicians

Just yesterday I unplugged the power supply to a phone we hardly use. That should save me maybe $1 worth of electricity this year

To be honest, something has changed for us too: we're afraid to make long-term investments, for we are not sure about our future.

That's not a politician like any other, he's Berlusconi. Two days ago, 4 months after saying this thing about "psychological recession", he stated that he could not lower our taxes because of recession. Confusing, ain't it?
Italy is a nice place to live, if you can ignore some serious problem, but I believe that there's no perfect place on this Earth.
