I checked out a local band for the first time last night. The front man had contacted me through Facebook and asked if I would be interested in photographing the band, here's a sample of what I got from the night.

Hello there - would they let you use your flash the next time if you get the gig??? .. these are nice but it can use just a little light

using a flash produced negligable improvements or made for "snapshot" quality photos. The only ambient light was provided by a "Miller High Life" neon sign hanging on the wall high and to the right (facing the stage)
