I'm a fan of the first edit sometimes less is more. Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes less IS more, but it wouldn't be much of a test if i didn't do anything , now would it.

muted colour in the first, and vibrant in the second. Amazing transformation.

Thanks jill, not muted colour, improper edits resulting in muted colour.

Color is only one of the things if you look closely.................selectiive coloring and color contrast.

Fixing multiple light sources.

Look at the fine details...............large scale and small scale contrast.

Better sharpening.

White balance adjustment corrected.

All of these edits should not have been done to this image, it was just a test to see where i stand, and this image had alot of different problems. As you can see, the 'mood' of the image(which is very important in preserving) was destroyed by too many edits.

Nice work, PT. I do that once in a while, too. I pick up new tricks as I go along with Lightroom and PSE. It's amazing what you pick up and don't even realize it. The eye is keener too! Nice work!

Hiyas PT,

I like the subtle changes you made... it's clearer and the lights no longer distract.

I try and go back once I learn something new in Editing and try it out on an older photo, it helps me remember what I learned and sometimes it really improves a shot I liked but didn't love.

Shot in May .. I was still just learning the basics and it shows.

Afternoon naptime

it's nice but has faults and flaws, I cut off the Mother's neck when i shot it ( stupid noob move), left some distractions around the edges... I had to soften it because I couldn't get it clean and it's colors are too dim.

this was edited as a christmas gift for my Sister in Law on 12/24, after I learned a WHOLE BUNCH of new skills, and practiced for many hours. I probably had edited hundreds of photos and watched dozens of video tutorials and lessons inbetween.

MotherGoose

This version is much brighter, a heck of alot cleaner.. I repaired mom's neck and removed the messy distractions around the edges. Just look at the Chick's down to get an idea of what I mean.

First basic rule of editing is it all starts with a good photo and I agree less is more, but the beauty of digital is when I have a shot like this where the subject matter outweights the qaulity I am obligated to bring up to my own standards if I can.

I like this type of discussion, helps us all learn from eachother and from our own progress.
Great Idea Buddy

Vin

Hi PrimeTime, Yes, I do this quite often. I look at my older work and then try to see what I can do to improve it. I didn't have CS4 or Lightroom 2 when I started of course and they make a huge difference when you edit.

Great job on the edit by the way!
Thanks for sharing this
Michael.

I like your second. There's much more detail and balance.
