Just some informational shots form the Currituck Beach lighthouse, in Carolla, NC, one of four in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This one is open to climb to the catwalk and it's an amazing view from the top. The lighthouse was never painted, so one can see all the bricks that were used to build it. The wall at the base is 5 feet 8 inches thick tapering down to around 3 1/2 feet near the top. About one million bricks were used in its construction.
Here's a link to some more information if you're interested: Currituck Beach Lighthouse | North Carolina Lighthouses The lighthouse, built in 1873: ![]() View from the top. The Atlantic ocean on the left, Pamlico Sound on the right. Winds were steady at 20-30 MPH. It was quite exciting at the top. The foggy look on the left is actually see sea spray blowing in off the Atlantic. ![]() A view of the lightkeeper's duplex from the lighthouse. Two keepers and their families were needed to maintain the light.
The thickness of the walls can be seen in this picture of a window near the top. Though the lighthouse is about a half mile from the beach, it is stays coated with sea spray. ![]() Hope you enjoyed the trip!

Great Post Mike! I really like the 1st and the 3rd the best, I like how you framed the shot in the 3rd one. I love light houses and you've captured this one well!
Thanks for the tour! Michael.

Great set here Mike - who doesnt love lighthouses? I think the "wreck report" is the neatest thing I have seen in awhile. That has been kept in great condition for over 100 years - reading it almost puts you there in the moment. TFS!

I love lighthouses. You can get some brilliant photos. I also love standing on the balconies with the wind blowing - exhilerating. I really like your 3rd photo framed in the window, and the photo of the long window.
