This is one of those shots where I had to debate with myself, it was still "low light", I was shooting at 560mm with manual focus, had to keep a shutter speed of 1/2500 because the guy wouldn't stand still
and I was shooting hand held (it was 35F and my fingers had gone numb). Had to step down aperture to 10 to get enough DOF. But the ultimate sacrifice was to bump up ISO to 6400 to make up for all that... So as you can see there's a bit of noise in the image... But it also looks like I did some post processing ![]() So may be some photo was better than no photo after all ... ![]() ![]() Great Blue Heron on the shore of Lake Dora, Tavares, FL.

Awesome job under very tricky circumstances. Great shot!
I have been trying to capture an owl that lives across the street from us. I got 1.8 lens and bumped my ISO to 1600 which is as high as my camera will go. My shots did not turn out as good as yours did. Well done

I like the way the light bounces off the subject.

Great Capture Joe.. Love the light and the reflection of the tail feathers in the water is amazing. Even though he was facing away , you still got the all important eye.
I took a look at the large version and I honestly think it looks pretty clean. Considering the conditions and the fact he was gonna move on any second I think it's an awesome shot.. regardless of how you shot it. A credit to your ability and knowledge of a very capable camera. Me with my Rebel would have made a mess of it. I have an old pair of sky gloves with the index finger cut off just because once my hands and fingers go numb I'm useless ![]() It's nice to meet you, Welcome to the community, you certainly inspire me to stretch settings to get the shot. Thanks much for sharing it, Vin

Thank you guys for your kind words of encouragement ... this place has been lot of learning and full of wonderful people
![]() I do have a woolen gloves which I normally keep on while shooting in cold, (And a thicker leather one that I can wear over it when not) but I'm lean built so it's not enough slack for me when shooting for a while and it starts to hurt like hell down to the bones...I remember reading about some gloves in one of Darren's articles about winter photography gear... I guess I need to dig it out ..

It does look good, especially considering the shooting conditions.
