Have been dying to try and get some cool star shots. First night in Breckenridge was crystal clear with no moon, and this is what I got.
![]() ![]() ![]() I hope to get more in Utah, and want to try some time-lapse as well. Last edited by ElCapitan; 01-20-2010 at 12:52 AM. |

Hi and welcome! Those are awesome star shots. I really like the first one - it has a very primeval feel to it, and I like the pine tree sticking up in the bottom corner, just to give it a little perspective. Can't wait to see more

Holy crap.
I suppose your exposure time on the first was no longer than 15 seconds, if not you would have just trails and not stars. This means that, if I'm right, you were under a very dark sky; that would be a dream come true for my stargazing activities. You can see the Milky Way, galaxies and clusters easily, my envy is exploding! ![]() TFS sharing, anyway, and for letting us know that such clear skies do exist.

Thanks for all the feedback. The first one was actually shot at 60 sec. There are actually some trails in the corners of the shot, but not very noticeable, especially in the center, was it was shot at 24mm. The wider focal length makes the stars movement less noticeable. If shot even wider, it would be possible to shoot from 60-90 sec and not see trails. I think tonight might be clear skies, so I am going to try for more.
