Default Lichen

I went out to photograph landscapes this morning and came back with this. I guess it is a very small landscape.

Nikon D90, Nikkor 35-70 f3.3-4.5 Micro, 1/160 at f16, 400 ISO. Quite heavily cropped down to 1864 pixels square. Actually, this kind of thing is why I upgraded from the D40 to the D90 - I couldn't have cropped this heavily starting with 6 rather than 12 megapixels.

A very small landscape indeed.

Good detail, even with the cropping.

Not sure what it is, but cool color, and a nice crop. TFS

Not sure I've ever seen lichen out here...that's why Jim doesn't know what it is..perhaps you need moisture...LOL
Great capture of it.

Thank you all for the comments.

@Chip - I was surprised how sharp it came out even after the cropping - that little Nikkor 35-70 f3.3-4.5 is a real bargain considering you can get them for less than $100.

@equilution - Lichen is a symbiotic mixture of fungus and algae. There's a lot of it around here, usually gray-green or yellowish.
