Default Sunrise at Mono Lake

Got up ultra-early this morning so I could make it to Mono Lake in time to catch the sunrise. Boy, am I glad I did...

Blue Sunrise

Pink Sunrise

The color came up and went away very quickly...less than an hour. But, as usual, the pending storm gave off a wonderfully diffused and mottled light. So...I switched to monotone and kept shooting...

The last one is best viewed large. There is actually a red tail hawk flying in this shot. Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain I'm the only one that can see him. Oh well...

Thanks for looking!

Oh, how I love those colors in both the first and second! Excellent composition too. Looks so still and peaceful. I'm so glad you got up early -- thanks for sharing the results with us! I tried viewing the last one in large -- wanted to see that red tailed hawk -- but your Flickr didn't give me the choice of viewing all sizes ......

Gorgeous pictures. Are you sure they were taken on earth?

Holy cow! These are really stunning...every one of them. Number three looks like something from another planet. This must be such a beautiful place.

I'm glad you did, too! The colors in your first two are stunning and the shapes and patterns of the last two land themselves so well to monotone. an excellent choice!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments! I assure you...these are all taken on Earth. It is quite an other-worldly place, though, to be certain. Even walking around I had the distinct feeling of what it must be like to discover a new planet. A very surreal place...
