Default my new toy...

Here's my version of the "under $10 homemade lightbox."

3 10' pieces of PVC pipe = $2.79
8 1/2" slip elbows = $2.24
8 1/2" slip tees = $2.24
3 yards white cotton = $2.97

lots of fun = priceless

There's some things that loads of money at your nearby camera shop can buy. For everything else, there's Lowes (and a fabric store.)

(And yeah, I know. It was a little more than $10. But not much more.)

Homemade lightbox

And, of course, a couple of test pics. These were my first tries at using a lightbox.

Very inventive. I would suggest putting something hard under your brown paper so the surface doesn't deflect under the weight of your subjects. And I agree with Patrick, great flower shot!

Good idea. Thanx.

The cross bars in the front have duplicates in the back that I've quickly realized are good for hanging backdrops from (such as the water-color painting behind the flowers) and can even hold up to a 30" wide roll of paper (since they are just friction-fitted together, they can be removed to thread on the roll. Also, the whole thing comes apart for portability. I did glue all the side pieces together but it's still very compact when taken apart into two squares and the cross braces.)

Here's a couple more views of it that show the construction and use of it in more detail. (BTW, Christmas wrapping paper that's on sale is a cheap backdrop and even comes in white when reversed )

Very nicely done. I love to see how others are "making due" without spending tons of $$. I really need to do something like this one of these days . . . I like the brown paper backing on the wine shot, too.

(BTW, did you use the blender for something? Maybe some "fruity drinks" during construction?)
