Default Water Drops

I can honestly say, this was a ton of fun to play with. I thought I would need an external flash and a macro lens, but all of these shots were just done with the built-in camera flash, and a 50mm prime lens. I didn't have any special set up, just a bowl of water with the camera set on a tripod.

The hardest part was probably releasing the shutter with my remote right as the drops hit. I did each drop one by one, timing it perfectly. I was actually kind of surprised at my reflexes and instinct.

The darker shots were taken when I made the water super red with.... tea bags!!!

I can't wait to experiment more with these, because I've seen some truly amazing water droplet shots.

Very nice photos. I also like the last one, it is very nice with only one defect, there is a black area at the bottom of the picture.

Oh, I like the blue one - a lot!!!! I read someone else's post today on water drops and thought it seemed really complicated. You make it sound like your set up was pretty easy. Maybe I'll try my hand at that sometime.

Thanks all!

Yeah, it was a blast. There were dishes everywhere as I was trying to find the right one. There was one with boiling water because I used tea to colour it.

I'm sure that if you set it up really complicatedly, you would get amazing shots, but I'm pleased with what I have here, at least for starting.

Another method I've heard of is to have a long exposure (a few seconds), and just have a really fast flash in a completely dark room? Be prepared to take a lot of shots if you do it my way though, because it's not always easy to time the trigger with each individual droplet.

Hi Alex. I love playing with water drops (when I can find the time) You did a great job with them all. I like the last one best. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Dave..
