Default Foggy Winters Morning - Church Shots.

Went to the local church of St Mary's in the nearby village of Denby. The Church there dates back to 1135 AD and is a lovely, peaceful place to take the camera on a cold, foggy winters morning.

Difficult to imagine a church being on this site since the 1100's but it's in the records, it was freezing -3 and foggy but still a peaceful, beautiful place to walk around and gather one's thoughts for a while.

For those who might be interested in the church - Home

Just been viewing these on Flickr David. Looks really peaceful, and no harm in being reminded of ones own mortality occasionally. Did you get inside the old church BTW? PAUL

Lovely churchyard shots David. A nice touch seeing the Union Jack too - I feel we don't show our patriotism in this way as a nation as much as happens over here.

High Paul, thank you for your support as always, no the place was locked up tight as there was no one around, it would have been nice to get in and see what it looked like, maybe in the spring I will pop back and try again.

Hello Nicky, thanks for stopping by and as always being so supportive. I too like to see the union flag flying and it's a shame it doesn't happen more often, I think folks are always a little worried here in the UK now about being seen to be too patriotic which I think is crazy. To me if your British then you should be proud to show it no matter what your ancestry is.
Take care.
David

I visited a churchyard cemetery yesterday. It was only established in 1742, nothing like 1100. I love old church's and cemeteries though. Lovely photos!

Hi there, thank you for your kind comment, I know how you feel about visiting old sites like these. It's like stepping back in time and you can almost read this history of the place through the headstones. I have to say when ever I need calm and peace I try to visit somewhere like this, it sort of levels me out again. You ought to get some of your images on here? I for one would love to see them
David.

Very good indeed! The fog has given the pictures such a nice soft background.

A wonderful set David. You captured the snow shot so well in the last two and i love the perspective and composition of the cross. You picked a great place to capture. It's always nice to see your part of the country..Cheers buddy.
