Default Bling bling

My fiancee's engagement ring. I started out shooting this in aperture priority mode, but for the DOF I was looking for, the lighting was just too poor. I then switched over to shutter priority (using a tripod of course) and finally achieved the perspective and DOF I envisioned. Once I transferred the shot to my computer, I just couldn't get the white balance/temperature where I thought "this is it." Being that color wasn't important here, I decided to convert the image to black and white, up the contrast slightly, and deepen the blacks a little. I think the black and white adds to the elegance of the ring. Sorry for being so long winded, please any and all criticism is welcome!

Default Great Shot.

Neat idea! The ring is nice and tack sharp (and quite pretty, btw). I'd brighten it up a wee bit and add a touch of contrast so the paper (or whatever it is the ring is on) is not so muddy grey.

Thank you for the critique. It is actually sitting on an opaque plate that is a white cloudy color, I'll give that a try though.

You're welcome! Even though we're not supposed to ask for or give critique in this section, since you did, I just had to say that, LOL. I'd love to see it if you re-do it!
