Default FD lens test

I got my lens adapters today so I hooked up my 28mm prime and got a few grabs. Not used to the manual focus(old age) but it had a very shallow DOF. My 50mm 1.8 worked great on some indoor video. Both of these shots came from the 28mm.

In this first one I focused on the eyes of the Indian maiden in the lower right.

Next I focused on the back couple.

I had light coming from all directions(I rushed). With the 4/3rds sensor I think these lenses are double the focal length of their rating I'm not sure. I have been told I should buy a Canon FD 50mm 1.4 instead of the 1.8? Anyone else using a hybrid with FDs

Hopefully someone is a hybrid user and can discuss this with you. I only have a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 (but I'm exceptionally pleased with it).

I'm still just a newb Nicky, I have done a lot of work with video but this is my first still camera that isn't a point & shoot. It does take nice HD videos though. By the way I visited your flickr site great stuff. Your very sweet, thanks for your time and I think everyone will have a hybrid in a few years.

I hybridize, but not with µ4/3 or FD. I use adapter rings to put Contax Zeiss, Leica-R and Olympus OM-mount lenses on my Canon dSLR.

If I could afford to go with µ4/3 as a second system, I'd probably want to mess about with M-mount, Contax-G, or M39/LTM rangefinder glass (I mean yes, I would long for a Leica-M, but the prices make that a no-go). But the only lens I could probably afford (and want) would be the $400 Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4. Still, that and the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 pancake would be a great combo.

With manual focusing--did you try using the magnified liveview to get more accurate manual focus?

Man you gave me a lot to think about. I love Leica lenses(my DVX-100a had one) and I've been eyeing that 20mm pancake. I didn't think to use the zoom great idea! Thanks for the suggestions I'll give it a try and check out your lens suggestions.

A couple of more grabs

Just wanted to add that the reason I'd go for the rangefinder glass is twofold: 1) only µ4/3 shooters can adapt 'em (much like Canon FD), and 2) they're going to be much smaller and lighter than SLR lenses, which make them a much better fit, and can keep a µ4/3 body from being too nose-heavy.

Only real problem is finding lenses that are wide enough for the 2x crop factor.

And yeah, that Panasonic/Leica 20mm f/1.7 is definitely drool-worthy. Beats the pants off the Olympus M 17/2.8.

BTW, here are three fredmiranda board threads of folks putting a CV Nokton 40/1.4 on a G1, a GF1, and an E-P1.

And if you like Zeiss glass, here's the one on adapting Contax G lenses to µ4/3:

Thanks so much for the links even more to think about. I have used the zoom assist with the kit lens but never with the manual. I have to figure out how to do it.
