I think both of your shots are quite good. I really love the perspective in the photo of your friend.
I'm fairly new to more than snapshot photography myself. I decided to go with a Canon 1000D and have found it very user friendly so far. I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions. I would do some research on a few different cameras and decide which features are most important to you.

like your pics...looking at the portrait of your friend, it looks like you used a reflector or a flash? nice balance with the sky...anyway...as for camera advice....though i'm using nikon d90 and very very satisfied with it, u should look more into the features of your new camera more rather than brand name... some things to consider..
-two command dial (important if you want to set anything up quickly without pressing buttons) -wireless flash commander (if u know u need to use flash in daylight, u'll need this to get off camera flash...works in dim light too) -high iso performace (good for indoor shots or just shots u need to handhold) -definitely more than 3 AF points (u want your subject off center dont you? the more the merrier) -on body af gear (faster af and can use older lens...my least important reason seeing i keep buying afs lens...though it really help with my tokina 11-16...) i bought a d60 for my first dslr and changed to d90 in 3 months because of those reasons... that's money wasted on d60 i think... just my two cents... canon equivalent of d90 features, i have no idea what that is...but with a little research you should be able to find out what it is... |

Welcome Luz, very nice couple of images.
It is not just the equipment but the ideas and creativity of the photographer, many great pictures have been taken with simple and cheap cameras. But, since everyone else is having a say - get a Pentax! ![]() Cheers, Gerard |

WELCOME to DPS Luz
Whatever camera you use, it's your eye and skill that will get the good shots. Your sunset is beautiful. The perspective on the friend is good...I would've had him block out more of the sun and used a flash if necessary. I think Nikon is a good choice...lol

Hi, The sunset is great.
You should be able to do a lot with the Sony while you look around and decide what you need and can afford. If you are serious about it you should consider what you will be able to add in the way of lenses down the road. Some of the more popular brands (Canon & Nikon) can be pretty expensive, in my opinion.
