As you walk along the path by the creek at Crescent Moon Ranch, you can’t help but notice a rock cairn that someone has built on a tree trunk. Hmmm, that’s unusual, you think.
![]() And when the path goes around the bend, there you are, surrounded by hundreds of rock cairns, some several feet tall and tiny ones only inches high made with pebbles. They’re on the ground, in the crook of tree branches, everywhere. ![]() Some are in the creek, undoubtedly built in warmer weather. ![]() It always pleases me to find these cairns respected and undisturbed. This is one of those places where there is a sense of “something more” than what meets the eye. The local legend is that when you visit this place, you should build a cairn and leave all your worries here. Usually by the time I get this far along the trail my worries have already been left far behind! But this time I built a cairn in honor of one of my hospice patients, and prayed for him and his wife as I did so. Later I learned that this is one of their favorite places. ![]() These were actually quite difficult to get a good photo of -- any suggestions are welcome! And if you have worries to set aside, come to Sedona and I’ll take you for a walk along the creek -- and perhaps for you too, they’ll be gone by the time we get here.

Helen, what a lovely thread. I already feel better...I've seen lots of these myself. Even at the mission...there were not cairns, but rocks put in formations...one said something, but not in our language. It's awesome...and thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for that Helen, just what I needed this morning. I like your photos and the idea of leaving your worries behind.
Interestingly, the expression "no worries" originated here in Australia and has now popped up all over the world. I first noticed this a few years ago on various English and American TV shows. I think it was probably Paul Hogan aka Crocodile Dundee who started it off. Cheers, Gerard |

Helen these are wonderful My good friend lives in Clarkedale and was the mayor there We made a whirlwind stop there 4 years ago and one place he took us to was Sedona. He told us that to the Indians it was a very special place with great powers. We visited that chapel built into the mountain
which was very special. I just could not believe the colors and beauty in the land. I will come back there some day.... with my camera because of its beauty which you present so well in your work

Helen ,
Interesting photos and information on these rock formations ( cairns? ) There is a house I pass on my commute every day and there are several out front . The house was sold a while back , but the cairns still remain ... Always wondered what they were ... ![]() TFS, -John
