Default 'Gidleigh Park Hotel', Devon

The Tudor-style house was originally built as a grand private residence in 1928 for Australian shipping magnate C. H. C. MacIlwraith. In 1977, the mansion was transformed into a country house hotel.
In 2006, Gidleigh Park underwent a total refurbishment, keeping the comfort of the old house in tact and adding refreshing new elements. The décor reflects the era when the building was constructed, with many features from the Arts and Craft Movement.

My mum and I stayed here for 5 days over Christmas...........we had a great time.
A 5 hour drive from Surrey, passing Stone Henge on the way. Through snowy fields, foggy lanes, up and down icy side roads to arrive at this....................

GIDLEIGH PARK HOTEL

Gidleigh Park Hotel

Located in 107 acres of secluded gardens and woodland on the North Teign River, within Dartmoor National Park. Its isolated position is simply majestic and beautiful at all times of the year-TRUE.

DUCK POND

Duckpond

I walked the grounds every day and, on this particular afternoon, almost tumbled into the Teign River........the rocks were very slippery!!

GUSHING

Burbling

There were many quiet spots around the lovely house to sit and relax.

Hi Tycooder...........it was a magical place and exceeded all our expectations. The staff were wonderful-a special holiday! Well, I dipped my walking boots in that river and laughed my head off at my near calamity. Thank you for the lovely comments.

What a grand old place, Moi. I'd love to stay here! You can find me in the reading corner with a good book, unless I'm out watching the ducks. Thanks for the warning about the slippery rocks! Your photos are beautiful, every one of them -- I'm so glad you and your mum had the opportunity to spend Christmas here -- must have been very special.

Hi Tenzin'sMom...........what lovely feedback. It was such a welcoming place to stay-nothing was too much trouble and always something to do or see. I LOVED my reading spot...........cosy and warm when it was freezing outside.

Just a bit different than the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I suspect?

It's a beautiful setting, moi, and you've done an excellent job capturing it with your photos. I'd love to hang out by that duck pond for a long while . . . .

Thanks for sharing, and Happy New Year!
