Default Bancroft Tower

Just wanted to share some bright blue skies from yesterday's snowy, 16 degrees Farenheit day. Although I've lived in this area for 5 years almost, I'd never heard of this structure until I randomly read about it a few weeks back. Yesterday I decided to check it out anyway, the weather was perfect for a stroll and a camera (and numerous layers of clothing).

It was constructed in 1900 by Stephen Salisbury III in honor of his friend George Bancroft. Bancroft was born at the bottom of the hill where the tower stands - he held the posts of Secretary of the Navy and US Minister to GB & Germany. He also founded the US Naval Academy.

stunning photo, colours and contrast and an amazing piece of architecture - I love the stone work. What was the purpose of the building? Good to see you had a blue sky day.

Great picture Nicky, love the blue sky and perspective. Funny, I have lived in New England almost my entire life and have never heard of this. Thanks for the history lesson!

Wow Nicky. This is gorgeous, lovely detail in the stonework and the contrast with the blue sky is awesome. I'm glad you shared it. How you doing my friend?

Dave.
