Default Rub the pig's nose for luck

Another picture from my photo walk around Sydney on the weekend trying out my new Pentax K7.

Il Porcellino (The little pig) statue, is located outside the Sydney Hospital.

It is a copy of a Pietro Tacca's wild boar statue in a 17th century fountain in Marketo Nuovo, Florence.

It is believed that if you rub the boar's snout he will bring you good luck.

The wild boar even has special outfits which he wears on special occassions to help raise money for the hospital.

That snout has been rubbed to a fine polish!

Great shot. I was in Italy in 2002 and we went through Ramona where Romeo and Juliet were suppose to be from and there was a statue of Juliet. The left breast was rubbed to a fine polish as this is for the same reason.

Very well done! I like how you've captured the child reaching a finger out for the snout.

Delightful photo! From the look of that snout, there must be a lot of lucky people in Sydney!

Love it! And who couldn't love a wild boar with outfits for special occasions?

Apparently a lot of people believe it as his nose is so nice and shiney. Great shot Gerard.

Thanks to all of you for your comments, it is really hard to keep up with this forum - everything moves so fast. I have been trying to look at as many posts as I can and to pop a photo up each day but there is the small matter of earning a living to consider, not to mention going to bed now and again.

Cheers,

Gerard
