Default Newborn

I am a newbie! I am new to this forum and really new to photography! I want to get "not new" and learn how to work my camera and take stunning shots. Please any feedback and help would be greatly appreciated.

This was a newborn photo shoot anything I did wrong or should have done differently?

Canon EOS 50D
50mm
f/1.4
ISO 640
Any details I am leaving out? Color change and minimal skin tones were touched up in PS.

Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.

Wow thank you everyone for your kind words!

I was wondering how people get such crystal clear pics these days...is it the lens? What type of lens would give me that sharpness?

Also with so many photographers these days...what in your opinion makes one stand out?

Thanks again for your responses!

For portrait shots I use 35mm f/1.8. A prime lens will generally get you a sharper image. 50mm f1.8 or the 35mm f1.8 are very affordable for what they do for your shot. You can set you camera setting to do the same as well. Shooting from a tripod would help as well, due to the fact there is no camera shake.

Welcome!

You have a great dslr with a very good lens and made a nice shot.
I guess you may want to try to shut off any noise reduction from your camera, shoot in RAW and do some smart sharpening with PS.

Anyway, your picture does not look too soft or whatever, don't worry!
