This is a Wood Stork They are on the endangered species list. About 10 have just arrived here at a lake 5 minutes from me Not the best shot but I wanted to share it. Ive never seen this many here before. They look rather prehistoric

Wow! Nice capture Brendan, it's sad to see such wonderful birds and animals as well becoming endangered and numbers depleting, these look such gracefull bird's and you have captured it really well, detailed and clear, thanks for sharing, cheers Steve.

Brilliant capture showing its gracefulness as it comes in to land. Such great detail in the wings and body.

Very beautiful shot! I checked the Flickr EXIF information on your shot and was amazed to see you did this with only 1/160th sec. shutter speed. You caught it just right with the wings at top position before starting back down, and your panning was spot on. Were you using a rapid/multiple burst shot shutter setting?

Thanks alphasco I really screwed up I didn't know I was shooting At160 so I was very lucky to get as little blurr as I did I guess the pan was decent and yes I was shooting in burst If it clears up tomorrow I will try again for some better results and a higher shutter speed and different aperture... Hope they are still here

Brendan, I'm so drawn to that lovely band of salmon pink on the underside of the wing -- what a wonderful touch of beauty along with that prehistoric-looking head. What a pleasure to see this photo!
