My attempt at off-camera flash portraiture by the beach.

Manual mode SB600 flash from top camera left at 24mm zoom and 1/16 power.

This is great! I'm just getting in to off-camera flash, as I just got my first speed light, and my first attempts were nowhere near as good as this. You have a great balance between ambient and artificial light here, that shows that it's sunset perfectly. Great stuff.
I'm really excited to get my hands on some gear like an umbrella or something to diffuse the light. I might try to make a beauty dish from scratch, as I have seen a couple of really nice DIY recipes on the internet!

Thanks for your compliments! I am still a student doing multiple part time jobs just to get by, so DIY is all I can get by with when exploring creative lighting. I used a white ceramic dinner plate once just to get enough bounced light to a baby's face... even used aluminium foil wrapped around the back of my flash to redirect the light, which was made fun of by my friends... but I didn't mind
