Thanks for all the replies.. Yes the Van De Graff is a metal ball on a stand that generates static electricity. The one that I have is rated at 250,00 volts. I can get a spark to jump about 4 to 6 inches.. When playing with a static electricity generator, you need to be super careful with electronics.. I fried a digital watch that I had..fortunately it was a cheap watch.. Needless to say I kept the camera FAR away :-)

That is cool! I think I can try it too next time I got to visit my in-laws. They have something like that at their house. I'm glad you mentioned you stayed far away from it when you take that shot.
