Default Just How Thick is This Ice?

So I am sitting on the west bank of the Missouri again shooting Canadian Geese in flight (coming soon) when I see the Fire and Rescue team pull across the river. I proceed to watch and shoot. Not sure exactly what they were testing or looking for. I do know they check the thickness of the ice from time to time for safety reasons but do not know why they would have to actually climb in the water to do so.

I guess they must know what they are doing Duane. Interesting to see them in action and well captured by you. Thanks. PAUL

Cool action shots though Duane! I know I'd rather be one of the guys on the sidelines - I don't mind the cold, provided I'm layered up, but cold AND cold water are not appealing! Nice "thirds" too ;-)

Nice set Duane, I would not want to be the one in the hole! He must have been the new guy.

Better them than me. Those are nice shots - you should be a photojournalist!

How interesting, and I too, wonder why they have to get into the water. Dang, that's thick!!!

Maybe practice for rescues? They do that from time to time in the lake in my town.
Whatever it is, it is too cold for me!!
