Default Pics with new flash!

My husband just bought me the Canon 430 EXII and a Canon 50 mm lense and I thought I'd share a few shots I've taken using them. The model is my daughter, I love most pics I take of her (just because I'm biased) but I am really pleased with the first one here, one of my favorite shots I've ever taken! Hope you like them!

Canon Rebel XS
f2.8
1/50
50 mm focal length
430 EX II speedlight used (1/3)

Excellent pictures of a lovely child, well done. I am curious to know, were you using the flash off-camera or bouncing it or was it attached normally?

I am keen to learn more about lighting techniques.

I took the pictures with the flash on camera but bounced the light off the ceiling. Not sure if that is a good technique or not, but I like the outcome. Thank you for the comments everyone!
