Default Christmas Eve and my new lens

I bought myself a 35mm 1.8 for my Nikon D60 for Christmas.

I tired it out for the very first time Christmas Eve and I think I managed to get some pretty good shots. What a difference shooting with the faster lens.

Any suggestions or advice on how I could have made these shots better or any tips in general would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That 1st shot is really cute....preparations for Santa with Sister's supervision to be sure it is all well before heading to bed.

Default Congrats on the new lens...

new lenses are always fun..

Your fist picture is excellent milk for santa and carrots for the reindeer. My wife woul always use whole carrotts and leave bite marks and partially eaten ones by the fireplace on Christmas morning. Excellent shot color clarity and composition.

The second shot has excellent compostion however the slight offset in thier facial positions has started to blur your daughters face... Fast lens short DOF. The first shot has some DOF effect on your son but because of his distance it is more acceptable to the eye.

The third picture is very cute but needs the light in the curtains removed and the (furniture?) on the lower right removed.

So When shooting with a very large aperture the DOF of the lens becomes critical.

Still these are excellent shots
