Default Architecture in Nature

I took a New Years day hike in the mountains and caught sight of this birds nest. At first glance it looked every bit like a regular, normal, birds nest until i studied it futher and discovered that this clever feathered creature put a roof over the top of the nest. Check it out!! It even looks like there is a cage constructed between the nest and roof to keep larger birds out.

Clever and resourceful! And well-spotted, too - I wouldn't have noticed the roof and "cage."
