Default Attempt at mono with a dash of colour!

Hi guys!
I am an extreme amateur here.. Bought myself a Nikon D3000 a few days ago and been playing around a bit, my husband and I are having a ball with this camera so far! So this is a pic I took of a rose and photoshopped it.. Constructive criticism welcome!!

to be honest i've never done this(or at least never finished a picture off) but i quite like this picture, however you still see the green of the leaves underneath the rose. I would zoom in to hundred percent to cut out the rose, to make the cutting as accurate as possible... i think

Welcome to DPS Kath and congratulations on your first post - even more so since you've posted an "experimental" image and sought feedback

Whilst personally I'm not a fan of selective colouring, I think this is a great first attempt - the depth of field is great, good exposure and the little drops of water on the petals are nice and sharp.

At first glance you have done an excellent job with the post processing, though, as Max pointed out, there's still a little touch of green visible.

You haven't said what you did in photoshop to achieve your great result - did you use selective desaturation or did you use layers and masks?

Again, welcome and I look forward to seeing more of your shots!

WELCOME to DPS.
Great shot and nice work on the selective coloring. Love it.

Hi guys, and thanks for the advice so far! I have used selective desaturation - although time consuming I like the end result! I will definitely be zooming in for my next play - you can see a little green..
Thanks again!
