Default A selection of shots not my normal fare.....change is good...I think

It is now 2010 for everybody so here we go with new shots etc. These were actually taken a couple of days ago so they are a part of my 2009 set I suppose. The girls wanted to go to the library and so instead of taking them to the local neighborhood branch, I took them to the main library downtown. The building is not that old and has an octagonal open atrium feel to it......but let me explain what you are seeing......In this first shot, you are looking up at the glass top in the center of the building from the main floor. What you see is an elaborate pendulum clock......if you look closely you will see the Roman numerals(hours), squares between them(minutes) and all encircled by horses(seconds). Different parts of the clock are illuminated to give the time......You can see the pendulum cable from the center circle in the center of the photo and coming down alongside the "V" numeral. A large brass ball with a pointer swings back and forth across the floor over certain points which also denote the time......interesting piece of equipment. Note that between the 7 and the eight numerals is a person higher up looking over the rail down at us on the floor....let's go up there and look down....

DSC_8570

This view is a little bit skewed because the perimeter up here on top is smaller than the main library floors......I am on the executive offices floor now...I saw my legs through the glass and decided to take a shot with them in it to give the shot a different look. I have one without and l'll post after the required responses....note the brass ball at the bottom...the pointer is about 1 inch off of the USA mosaic swinging back and forth...It is anchored a few feet above my head

DSC_8599

this is the ceiling on the second floor over an open study area with all glass wall for a broad view of main streen and city buildings.....the wood slats are made of hemlock.....purely a shot driven by lines, circles and contrast between light and dark

DSC_8602

Say what?.....streetlights beside a study table? I thought that this was a unique view.....not sure how much studying you could do there but you could spy on a lot of people out on the streets! Scroll on down past the first few comments to see the shot without my legs....hope you enjoy!

Such a cool thread Patrick - you've shown us this great library through such a unique perspective. I love the horses decorating the clock, fabulous accessory - only in KY!

Nice work Patrick, love the perspective on these captures, really like that first shot looking up at that clock, I must say it can be hard coming up with new material to capture sometimes, you have done really well with these, cheers Steve.

Fabulous shots Patrick and a wonderful story to go with them. The architecture of this library is brilliant and you have captured it extremely well in these great shots. I love the perspective of the first shot so much detail. There is nothing wrong with showing off your sexy legs, they are way more distracting than trying to study with a traffic light right out the window. Hope the girls had fun reading books while dad was snapping away.

Angela, the kids did indeed find a little cardboard house to snuggle up in and read books and then checked out 35 books to take home for further reading! Guess who was carrying camera bag and a book bag back to the car?

Hi Patrick, I like the perspective on all these shots. Certainly not the typical book shots I would have used, its very commendable the kids visiting a library for the new year though, wish mine would something like this.TFS
