Default Ring (Around the Moon)

Here in snowy Idaho we have thoughts about a ring around the moon - snow's coming!

There were many factors to contend with when shooting this moon tonight. It caught my eye right when I got home from work. Hurrying past my bewildered dogs, I grabbed my camera, ran to the closet for my tripod (then, consequently, had to hunt down my ball head), relocated the Christmas tree, and started shooting. I quickly learned that manual was the only way I was going to get these shots, so I rushed to lower my ISO, set my timer (no time to find the cable release!), choose a mid-range aperture and underexpose slightly. And, to add icing to the cake, I shot through my dirty living room window.

So, it was an exciting ten minutes. I'm sad by the amount of detail and fine coloring that got lost when I converted to 72ppi for web viewing. So, if you can, imagine it a little more intricately colored, with a tint of subtle green on the edges of the light.

And, one more shot.

Both shots has similar exif, here is the settings for the first shot:
aperture: f/16
shutter: 2.5 (tripod mounted)
iso: 200
processing: curves for brightening, slight saturation boost

P/S - ring around the moon might make us *hope* for snow, but it certainly doesn't guarantee it. bugger.
