Default Christ Ornament Snippets: His Star

Continuing the Christmas story.....

Matthew 2:1-2 .....wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him."

The magi were from the Medo-Persian empire which ruled the world between the Babylonian empire and the Greek empire. The magi were very influential and learned men, and in their culture were known as "kingmakers". They made the laws and selected the kings in their culture.

They were without a king at the time of Jesus' birth and were searching for a king when they saw a great star and followed it to Jerusalem. It is highly unlikely there were only three and that they slipped into Jerusalem quietly. When foreign dignitaries travel to a distant land they come with an entourage, especially at that time when a trip of 800 miles would have taken several months.

They brought gifts for the baby Jesus, gold, a gift for a king, incense, a gift for diety, and myrrh, a gift for burial, all symbolic of the rest of the story.

Where is He now? Ruling and reigning from above and also from within our hearts. Today we, like the magi before us, would do well to search out the answer to the question Jesus asked....."Who do men say that I am?" and "Who do you say that I am?"...We all have to have to answer that question......What do we do about Jesus and His claims.....The magi recognized the magnitude of what they saw.......Do we? Thanks Mike for the history lesson attached to your shot.
