Default Attempt at partial black and white

I was playing around with some photos and thought I would try this. What do you think?

Have to say great first attempt at this it is hard to get a decent subject for it but this works weklk .. out of interest which software do you use? my only advice for this would be do duplicate layers of the priginal and the delte everythin but what you want to keep slowly reduce eraser size as you get closer to what you want to keep.. then turn the background layer B&W presto neat edges ....

then play wih the blend modes on the colour layer ... if this sounds hard it is more my explanation than how hard it is

"Ogres are like onions"...unfortunately, I'm not. I am using Picasa 3 from Google and I don't have any layers. The software lets me crop, do minor color adjustments and a couple of effects, but nothing remotely advanced. Soon I will be purchasing some good editing software but right now I don't have any. For reference, this was the original picture.

Nice work! If you're wanting to get into a wider range of post-processing without breaking the bank, I recommend PhotoShop Elements. I have PSE-7, and it cost about $80 at a discount club. PhotoShop Elements 8 is out now, but I haven't upgraded yet.

PhotoShop Elements contains an abundance of features and functions, including layers. With all of PhotoShop Elements features, unless you are a pro doing your own post-processing in great bulk, I don't see spending $700 + for full-fledged PhotoShop.

Thanks for the comments all. I plan to get photoshop elements 8 soon. I am just a hobbyist and don't need all of the extra stuff in the full photoshop. I appreciate all of the help. Your comments are always welcome.

It highlights the proper part of the shot and minimizes background distractions

Nice Shot, But i think if you apply some angle of view in your shot, maybe better.
Thanks for Sharing, Nice Green.
