Default High Key Cooper's picture added....post 5

While helping with the Westerville, Ohio/Hoover Reservoir area Christmas Bird Count (CBC) our group came across a Juvi Cooper's Hawk.
It's a bit "high key" But a good shot none the less. If you look real close, you can still see remains from it's
latest victim on it's foot.

Hawk

Exif data:
Focal Length: 460.0mm (35mm equivalent: 690...
Exposure Time: 0.0040 s (1/250)
Aperture: f/13.0
ISO Equiv.: 1000
Exposure Bias: 1.67
Whitebalance: Manual
Metering Mode: spot
Exposure: aperture priority

the CBC is put on by the Nat. Audubon Society and is a great way to meet new people and learn more about birds in your area...Oh! and you are guaranteed to get some great subjects to practice on! Here is link: Christmas Bird Count

Have a great day!

Brilliant capture. It's great how you have got the background white, it makes it easier to see the amazing detail of the hawk. It sounds like a good group to get involved in to learn about birds.

I agree, the light background really makes the bird stand out. It looks so sharp, a nice shot.

Thanks, This was also a lesson for me in exposure compensation. I took a couple of shots and of course with the gray sky, the hawk was almost black...even with spot metering. But a quick increase in the exposure compensation brought out the hawk. I was able to bring a lot back in ACR as well.

For those interested here is the original SOOC uncropped, uncorrected, unphotoshoped (except for a water mark), Most of the correcting was done in ACR with a little Topaz noise reduction and localized brightening of the face, and cloning out of some twigs done in CS3.:
