Default Architecture: Old Competes With New

This new roof at Piccadilly Station, Manchester, UK is not supported by the old cast iron pillars that supported the old roof, but they have been rightly preserved for posterity.
Taken with my ever present P&S.

Love that architecure Paul, and the colours too. Amazing what gems you find, if only you take the time to look. I'll bet that although thousands of people pass through that station daily, relatively few will have even noticed these so high above eye level.

Hi Paul - at least they didn't destroy the old ...more often, they'll just mowed down the old building with no regards to its architecture style ... this is very nice

That includes me Nicky. I have gone through this station dozens of times, but it took photography to open my eyes. Thank you my friend. PAUL

This shot reminds me of Humanities Classes. Had to refresh my understanding of Green columns. Of course, it is always good to feel 19 again. And now we're back to the question: could modern builders make these columns. It is so intricate and beautiful. I appreciate your eye for these architectural details, Paul. Thanks for holding these things--Corinthian columns--dear.
