Default The Gift Of Life

This Old House

The reason that I like to photograph and show images of days long gone is because I like the idea of what has obviously been forgotten and neglected over the years can now be shown in a new light. I believe that the photographs, in effect, bring new life to the subject.

In a sense that is what has happened to me. One year ago today I received a phone call that has brought a new and totally different outlook to my life. On December, 14 – 2008 at 10 AM, I received a phone call from the Hamilton Kidney Transplant Co-Coordinators office to inform me that they had found a donor kidney for me. To make a very long story short the transplant was a total success and I continue to enjoy life to the fullest once again.

I have been seeing the world in new light and decided to return to photography as a way to capture what I find to be beauty in this beautiful world we live in. I see beauty in an old and weathered home by picturing the house in time when it was someone’s place of residence.

Sorry if this is a little off the beaten path but I have been so happy this past year that I wanted to share that feeling with my new friends here at DPS.

I call this photograph “The Gift of Life” for the reasons stated above.

Peace.

Hello Brian, your reasons are understandable, but your photo is just great. I do think you should try and convert it to B&W for a more rustic effect, but that's just my opinion.

Wow Brian, this is a pretty cool image. It does remind one of times ago. Congrats on the transplant and am overjoyed that all was successful. Welcome back to photography. Am sure I will learn a thing or fifty from you. Thanks for sharing & I look forward to seeing more of your images.

No apologies necessary Brian. At the same time you received your gift of life, you received much more than a kidney, and you have decided to share your new vision of the planet with us. That's makes us beneficiaries too.

Treasure this minute
Because you are in it

Thank you for caring to share, and God bless.

Wow, as if the photo isn't fabulous enough in its own right, your story is amazing Brian! As soon as I caught sight of the photo it sparked a memory of how I've loved all your other photos of rustic/urban decay, and this is no exception - it looks great in monotone and color - each for its own reasons, but I especially love the bright colors that the color version manages to capture.

As for your newest kidney - fantastic! So pleased that it's given you a new lease of life, and that it's obviously settled into your life nicely. Special thanks also to the donor and their family for allowing it to find a new home. Very special people indeed.
