Default Rainbow Effect

I was taking a few pictures of my son earlier today when I snapped this one. I have no idea how I got the rainbow but it makes for a neat snapshot. Anyone know how to repeat this effect?

Actually, I think what you have there is lens flare caused by the reflections between the elements of your lens. This often happens when shooting into the Sun, even if the Sun is off-axis/not in the field of view. Lens flare is sometimes used on purpose as an element of composition and is interpreted by the viewer as the glare that is experienced when looking into the Sun.

They're probably right that it's lens glare, but personally I like to think that your son is being followed by a rainbow

Like the movement and texture in this picture

Thanks all. My favorite subjects are my kids, but they are hard to shoot!! I am desperately trying to move from just taking snapshots to taking actual photos so any input you have to offer is much appreciated. I took this one at the same time. I like the color but my son was a little out of focus (he usually is). What could have made this better?

Your camera probably focused more on the background than him I think. I'm fairly new myself so I won't commit but the grass is in late sunlight and your son more in shadow, so your camera may have needed you to make an adjustment (I get the same problems myself so I would be interested to read the answer from a more knowledgeable source).
