Default The Birthday Boy....

....or the reason for the season! My wife made this set the year before we got married, so it's pretty old.

Brian, don't you just love those things that you bring out year after year that have a patina of memories? Especially the ones that were made by a loved one. That's one of the things that helps make Christmas for me.

Thank you, Duane! She will probably be all shy when I tell her I posted it.

Hi Mike, Absolutely a lot of memories with this. She isn't quite into it as much this year with our son not there to help. But she is getting better.

Sorry, it is not "the reason for the season", the obliquity of the earth's axis is the reason for the season. Nor is it a "timeless image", the midwinter solstice has been celebrated, and images recorded, since well before a mere two millennia ago.

It is a lovely warm image though. Thanks for sharing.

This may get me absolutely slagged. I've noticed that this site gives the appearance of being very Christian. I suspect that this is because only the Christians express their religion on this site, whereas people of other religions, or people of a naturalistic worldview, or, I'm sure, many other Christians only focus on the photography. Oh well, here goes.

Oh Jim. Your feelings are well expressed and truly respected. And of course, the seasons to which you refer have been occuring for millions of years, and will occur for millions more one assumes. There are other "seasons" that fall under a slightly different category though. The sowing season, the season for harvest, the season of thanksgiving, and in the case of December the 25th, the season of goodwill. I guess you write down the date occasionally when you write a letter. All you are doing is making reference to the birth of a person in the name of Jesus Christ, an historical figure as real as Pontious Pilate, or King Herod. It's just that the world seemed to cotton on to Jesus for some reason and chose to measure time against him. And this is certainly not a Christian site, but one that has Christian contributors, who, having the gift that they possess, find it difficult to keep under their belts. Please share with us any belief you have that you may get excited about too, and we will rejoice with you my friend, in a spirit that portrays what we all have in common, a tolerance for the differences we all possess. I have learned so much from your wonderful gift of capturing images and freezing them into an art form for perpetuity, and Iook forward to learning much more from you as we all progress.

Thanks for the comment Jim, this is just this photographers reason for the season and in no way should you be slagged for your thoughts or beliefs. I enjoy your posts and look forward to more of them!
