Default Light Trails

I wanted to try doing some light trail photos near dusk and finally got the chance in Vancouver. My friend, Bob, and I went to Stanley Park after visiting a camera store in Vancouver (where I got my new 70-200 f4 IS), and went crazy. This lens performs as well as the reviews stated, and the image stabilization was awesome. The second and third photo were taken hand-held at 1/40 sec at 200mm (new lens), while the light trail shots were done with my Sigma 18-50. Let me know what you think.

Great job on the light trails...that foggy rainy look is so very typical Pacific Northwest....Hope you get some dazzling winners with your new lens

Hi Paul, Finally, our paths cross here at DPS! I've missed seeing your shots. Especially ones like the drinking fountain because only a handful of people would ever even see that shot. I like the contrasting textures! The quality of light on the light trails is just great, made particularly nice with the neutrals grays of the mountains, trees, sky and fog in contrast with the bright color. The "sails" looks like an interesting structure. Again--good to see your work.

I love them all!! I used to drive right through there every single day on my way to work when I lived in New West. Many times I thought what a great place that would be to take a shot of the bridge. Didn't have my camera back then though. Almost makes me miss the city that much more. Don't miss the commute though, New West to North Van via Vancouver to drop my wife off every day. Now I have a twelve minute commute, it is great. Thanks for sharing your wonderful shots!!

You are definitely right about that grey sky being typical for this area, especially at this time of the year! Thanks, Patrick.

Hi Linda. You are right in our paths not crossing much lately. I am teaching full time again (lost my student teacher), and have been very busy at my school. I am always so happy to get feedback from you Linda as you have such an artistic bent to your comments, which I appreciate as I have been into art all my life! Thanks so much!

All great shots. Really like the first with the light trail disappearing into the fog.

Well done.

Thanks for the comments, DoctorP. I had a great time taking these shots, and was finally able to make good use of my 3 stop ND filter!

HI PAUL
Congrats on the new lens... looks like a keeper to me!
Great job on the light trails. I like seeing it done when there is still some light out.
Wow... hand held huh... either the IS is fantastic on that lens or you have some steady hands. Those 2 are very crisp. I really like the water fountain shot.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Nikki. You are so good about providing constructive comments! The water fountain and Canada Place shots were with the new lens. Amazing image stabilization. It is rated between 3 and 4 stops for IS.
