Default Bullets and Snow

I have a hard time deciding between the two...which one do you like better?

Colorfully Cold

or

Bullets & Snow

Both are photos of 6 small snowballs, covered in food coloring, and shot with a pellet gun. My preference was originally for the second, but my wife likes the first. Thoughts?

I can't decide which I like better. I like the first one because if you didn't say that it was snow, I wouldn't have figured it out. I like how it's closer, but it bothers me that the orange is almost missing (which I wouldn't have known without seeing the second one.) I also like that the snow doesn't really show in the reflection of the first one. I like the second one because the colors are brighter.
So, I guess I didn't answer your question - but I like them both.

Both are really awesome....I pick my favorite according to which I would put on my wall. I do love the 2nd pic best...but the first as more color exploding....But my favorite would still be the 2nd pic....

FWIW, I definitely prefer the second. You get the reflections and contrast between the original white and the exploded color. Very cool concept.

As a newbie I'm very curious as to how you triggered the camera - can you share?

Thanks!

I've done quite a few of these types of shots, only recently getting into the more colorful side of it.

I have a home-made circuit that triggers the flashes (not the camera) when it hears a sound. Actually, it hears the sound, adds a little time delay, and then triggers the flashes to give time for the bullet to pass through the target (in the second photo the, bullet was still in the frame, but I cropped it out).

The camera is on a 2 second shutter speed...plenty of time for me to fire the pellet gun. For this to work, the room must be fairly dark so ambient light is not detected by the sensor.

I would go for nr 2 as i feel picture nr 2 the focus is much sharper then in nr 1. Although every person can have a different feeling.
