Default Irish_wolfhound from Ireland

Irish Wolfhound at Muckross Frams

I am very new to this and this is my first post so if I mess this up I want to apologize up front. I am also new to photography and would like your input. I took this on a trip to Ireland and I think it looks good , but any comments you can give me to help improve my eye would be very helpful as I am just leaning. I am using a Cannon EDS 50D with a cannon EF 24-105mm 1:4 L lens. How was the framing, lighting, composition. Any suggestions to improve the shot

welcome to dps.....yes, that shot does indeed look good. Those eyes looking right at you...hard to tell what they are saying. It sort of looks like it wants to bite my head off.

I love those dogs. What soulful eyes!

I think the shot works as it is, but you might experiment with cropping in PS or Picasa. See how it looks with less of the stone wall on the left. It is an interesting texture, but it distracts me from the hound a little. I'd like to see this shot re-framed so that the dog's eyes are closer to the intersection of the top 1/3 and the left 1/3. I know the rule of thirds is done to death, but in this instance I think it would really bring out the eyes.

Welcome to DPS....I love this shot. I am no expert, but would probably crop the photo in closer keeping the fence as a frame. Awesome job and keep posting.

Thank you your comments are most helpful. I did re-frame the shot with the fence as the frame and it really made a difference
